This time I'm driving the boat by myself, so everyone off the lake

Next weekend is a long weekend here in Canada, which means I’m padding the weekend with a couple vacation days, and we are off to my parent’s cottage (heretofore known as “the lake”). But it’s also Liz’s birthday on the 28th, so I thought it would be nice to take that day off as well, since I’ll probably work on mine, and somebody in this house should enjoy their birthday. Then, as it turns out, July 3rd is our wedding anniversary, and wouldn’t it be nice if I took that day off as well. So in total, we’ll be away for six days, two more than our usual long weekend vacations.

Apparently cats can’t be left alone for that amount of time or terrible things will happen. I suggested that maybe the cats would be fine for 6 days alone, kind of a little vacation away from the humans. But apparently infinitely large vapid back holes will appear and swallow the universe, lowering morale, and over all making everyone involved very uncomfortable. Or, at least, that’s what the look I got implied.

So a friend has offered to look in on the girls while we are away. I assured her she didn’t know what she was getting into, that our cats are wild, wild creatures with little regard for human life, but she was determined to help, so I did what anybody would do when concerned for another persons safety, and I had her sign a waiver.
