American prices removed from Canadian magazines

December 17, 2007

Liz brought this to my attention on Saturday while we performed our weekend grocery shopping. All the magazines at the checkouts had only the Canadian prices on them, instead of the typical U.S. and Canadian prices. Apparently the disparity between American and Canadian magazine prices, in combination with the whole Canadian-dollar-at-parity thing, has caused us all to be a little confused. We think we deserve fair and equal pricing, and that’s just messed up. But by hiding the lower American price the problem goes away, right? Right? Sigh.

It is with this in mind, that the corporations respectfully request that you dutifully perform more consuming, and less inquiring.

Interesting!
It would seem to me that publishers have decided that it is cheaper to print two different covers (one for Canada and one for U.S.) than it is to change prices to reflect fluctuations in the exchange rate.

I've been enjoying the drop in book prices. My local comic shop (Wizard's Tower on Fallowfield Rd) has been charging U.S. prices for graphic novels for the last little while, and it's a significant difference in price.
